About us

Pittsworth District Historical Society

In 1972 the Pittsworth and District Historical Society was formed and so began our local museum on land in Pioneer Way.

Over the years, numerous buildings were brought onto the site and the Society developed an extensive collection of historical items from the district.

The museum now houses hundreds of photographs, stories and books.

In 2006 the Pittsworth Shire Council was appointed trustees for the museum and its collection, a role assumed by Toowoomba Regional Council since shire amalgamations in 2008.

Pittsworth Family and Local History Society

In 2012 the Pittsworth Family and Local History Society was formed with the aim of promoting and encouraging the study of genealogy, as well as recording and preserving local history for the benefit of the community.

As part of this objective, the group assists the Toowoomba Regional Council to maintain and extend the history library and archives in the old school building at the Pioneer Village.

Members open the library on Thursdays, Fridays & Sundays. The group also conducts workshops and meetings.
